The Nationals and Rangers are reportedly in speaks about Cole Hamels

As we’ve mentioned within this space before, you will discover multiple teams seeking to upgrade their pitching prior to trade deadline instead of as many teams using the level of pitching talent hmo's group is seeking. Or there’s talent available however the asking costs are way too big as proportionate on the actual need. With multiple pitchers sent to your DL today, that market only gets more cramped.

Which brings us to Cole Hamels.

The rumor

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports which the MLB The Show 18 Stubs Nationals and Rangers are discussing an agreement centered around Cole Hamels, who's going to be past his prime just as one ace but tend to serve being a decent supporting player for the backend of the rotation for the team that in some way needs it.

Why it makes sense for your Rangers to trade Hamels on the Nationals

The Rangers are sellers with the deadline, and between Hamels’ 2018 performance, his numbers, with the exceptional contract situation, he’ll be described as a tricky piece to advance. Add as part of his no-trade clause, with which he is able to block trades to two thirds on the league, and that he’s an exceptionally tricky piece to go.

So for that Rangers, would you like him off their books with the time his $20 million 2019 team option (or $6 million buyout) comes on the scene, the Nationals are a good match who could be considered a very helpful trade partner if they can be open to it.

Why it makes sense with the Nationals to trade for Cole Hamels

Hamels numbers — a 4.36 ERA and something over five since the beginning of June, a 5.06 FIP, 109.1 innings pitched in 19 games — are teetering for the border of reasonable and worrisome. As Morosi notes in their piece within the talks, Hamels’ summer will never be great and the man can blame his fastball command to the.

However, the Naionals need pitching help specifically with Stephen Strasburg coping with injuries and struggling in the return, any help will do. They’re falling behind the Braves and Phillies from the division of course, if they wish to make sure they have the postseason in what may very well be Bryce Harper’s not too long ago in town, a move is essential. Even a risky one like accepting Hamels for some months.

As it stands if your Rangers are going to Buy MLB The Show 18 Stubs take on an acceptable chunk of Hamels’ $7 million salary to the rest on the year, this can work. But it’s more probable the Nationals will hunt elsewhere for an additional available option who they don’t should worry about failing as much. They’ll require some luck to accomplish it this coming year, but this doesn’t appear like a perfect fit this far out through the deadline. Maybe this will be this coming year’s midnight deadline deal regardless of anything else comes together.

Rumor grade

Wait ... endure. Nevermind? Who knows what’s happening behind the scenes. Talks can have happened before now and so are simply not happening any more, or this could become a case of Trade Deadline Telephone skewing rumors.

Let’s give that one a “B-” in the meantime and get over it until talks arise between both of these teams again or Hamels is of another team are anxious for pitching support heading into your home stretch.
