No Flying on Argus Reignites Years' Old Kerfuffle
When players landed on Argus in World of Warcraft a couple weeks ago, these folks were met with the now-familiar prohibition against flying. Blizzard may be very outspoken about new zones being "no fly" for at least the initial several weeks or months, usually requiring players to find reputation with zone factions and / or complete various objectives to 'earn' the ability to fly. Many, in reality, had just completed the tasks to unlock flying for the Broken Isles, only to go to Argus and turn into grounded again.More than a few threads have cropped on top of players being unhappy with all the decision not to ever fly. This particular thread, "No Flying in Argus Made Me Lose All Interest", continues to be highly trafficked by both players and Blizzard community management. The zone is indeed drab and extremely feels like nothing in excess of broken shore 2.0...same atmosphere/scenery just with excessive mob density. We spent months earning pathfinder in order to have flying removed all over again.
This is going far too far blizzard, especially using the terrible terrain design on Argus. I hope blizzard will rethink their yet again "no flying" debacle before they lose another drove of subscriptions in order to have their attention.Community Manager "Ornyx" weighs about page 14 within the discussion:I think lots of folks disagree with you around the first point, and Argus is one with the best elements of Legion if you ask me personally, but only to clarify for the second:This is nothing new, therefore we don't have plans to change this forward motion. New zones put in patch content never to my knowledge had flying allowed. Even when flying has been around since 2.0, flying hasn't been available around the Isle of Quel'danas gets hotter released into two.4.
The same is true of Isle of Thunder and Timeless Isle from 5.2 and 5.4. These zones have been about exploration, which has a bit of danger, and Argus fits quite nicely into that theme.I can be aware that you can have recently earned Pathfinder and even fly, but nobody is stopping you against flying anywhere you desire over the Broken Isles - but this can be Argus. If you're experiencing difficulty getting around Argus, you are probably not paying attention for the landscape. If you're dying in Fel flows, you may be charging head first into them rather than leaping over the rocks floating about. If you're constantly being tagged by mobs, you could be missing a less arduous way across the groups.Argus isn't should be a friendly and hospitable place, and I wouldn't bet my gold over a demon seated for tea by himself any time soon. If you're trouble and finding it difficult to have around and prevent pitfalls, then Argus is being employed as intended.Several more times through the entire thread,
Ornyx speaks out regarding the decisions the c's has made regarding flying at the begining of iterations of brand new locations. This particular exchange is interesting, particularly via one of Blizzard's player "MVP"s:Well, perhaps it's time to the development team to acknowledge that flight will be part from the game and develop content with all the idea that people can fly as opposed to take the mindset of "we can't stand flight, therefore we're about to restrict it--even after making people jump through hoops and holding it well for nearly annually without it."The genie is out from the bottle. The team needs to spread out their minds fot it idea instead of constantly search for ways to pull out from it.I remember Lich King along with the idea that people could fly early.
And we flew. And we had fun. It was OK, really. Why exactly perform developers think only by restricting flight would they give us new stuff?Ornyx fired back:We can say buzz phrases like "the genie is out with the bottle" for hours on end, nevertheless it doesn't get us anywhere. I think this has been well acknowledged we are still open to your idea of flight or we wouldn't have flight in a content in any way, no? We've transferred to meet the community from the middle - it is precisely what Pathfinder continues to be about. Earn your wings: show you've achieved completion on the content overall and you may fly. There's not really an attitude of 'close mindedness' for the topic on the development team, we've had a good amount of positive discussions about the direction of flying overall. I do think, however, that you can find folks from the community who will be 'close minded' to entertaining a concept of "maybe you shouldn't be capable to fly around and skip all this content when new areas are released".
I think these conversations should be a two-way street, along with the more we've everyone inside community calling the team closed minded or pointing fingers, the further we are away from amicable understanding inside the community. Of course I've been happy to have those conversations, but if he or she start they quickly dive into arguing instead of any discussion about the merits of the approach and this's really not something I need to be apart of.I also don't believe asking pointed, rhetorical questions is about to get us anywhere. It seems the discussion, thekerfuffle, is often a circular one, though one who exposes the frustration of on both sides on the issue. However, in essence that there will probably be no changes originating from Blizzard's side however loud the complaints are.
